1. 개요

미국의 록밴드 벨벳 언더그라운드 셀프 타이틀 앨범에 9번째 트랙으로 수록된 곡.

2. 상세

전체적으로 서정적인 분위기를 띠고 있는 3집에서 유일하게 2집 White Light/White Heat의 실험적인 느낌을 지니고 있는 특이한 곡이다. 각 절에는 루 리드 스털링 모리슨이 시를 낭독하는데, 동시에 다른 구절을 다른 빠르기로 다른 방향에서 낭독한다. 스피커의 왼쪽 채널에서는 모리슨, 오른쪽 채널에서는 리드의 목소리가 나오는 것. 후렴의 경우 모린 터커와 더그 율이 마찬가지로 각각 왼쪽과 오른쪽 채널에서 노래를 부르는데, 이 역시 서로 미묘하게 박자가 겹쳐져 알아듣기는 쉽지 않다.

루 리드의 말에 따르면 여러 사람들의 대화 속에서 한 목소리만 유독 잘 들리는 현상을 표현하고 싶었다고 하지만, 이 노래는 그를 재현하는 데에 '실패'했다고 한다. 가사를 잘 보면 아무 맥락이 없으며,[1] 노래의 중후반부부터 피아노의 리듬이 바뀌더니 마지막에는 피아노를 마구 두드리는 것처럼 불협화음을 내지르며 끝난다.
